Songwriter and Novelist Ben Arthur wrote and recorded a song answering a poem by Joyce Carol Oates: “Too Young to Marry but Not Too Young to Die.” Arthur and Oates both performed their work as part of The Inspiration Experiment at Poets & Writers Live in San Francisco on January 10.
Arthur’s song can be heard, and JCO’s poem viewed, on the Poets & Writers site.
The Inspiration Experiment also included other works inspired by JCO’s poem, from illustrator Roman Muradov, and dancer Sarah Fiske; and poet & filmmaker Nick Twemlow, whose JCO-inspired “as the sky shifts overhead” can be seen below.
